Unhappy return to the Domain
Fan in the Stand
Written by Fan in the Stand
Monday, 22 August 2016

The start of a new season is always a good reason to be optimistic. Throw in a return to Tauranga Domain, sensibly priced tickets and huge efforts on getting people to the game and there grew in the Fan a hope that 2016 could be our season.

The optimism evaporated pretty quickly once the game started against Taranaki. Our recent history against them is terrible, our last win was 2006 and our last try was 2012 and this game started with a sickening head knock for Dan Hollinshead that saw him leave the field on a stretcher. Maybe this knocked the team as we bumbled through most of the first half, dropping lots of ball and not taking advantage of having possession. Our scrum was moving backwards fast as well.

Monday, 15 August 2016

The Bay of Plenty Steamers capped off their pre-season with a 22-21 win over Auckland.

The Steamers kicked the game off and were first to score through Henry Stowers, crashing over the line after a brilliant off load from Kelly Haimona.

Auckland responded soon after from set piece seeing Kurt Eklund over the line after a solid drive from his forwards.

Steamers squad announced for 2016
Kiwipie
Written by KP
Saturday, 23 July 2016

The squad has just been announced for 2016. Lots of young talent in there, especially players who have shone in sevens. Biggest loss is Carl Axtens who went to France on a short-term contract and did well enough to have his deal extended.

The best news is that Culum Retallick is back again despite playing his super rugby in Australia. With 92 Steamers caps, he will become a centurion this season (injury permitting) and it will be a long time before we have another centurion.

Also good news is that the union has abandoned its "premium" ticket prices for Tauranga Domain and it is back to a flat $20 for adults and $5 for kids under 14.
